You may notice that all of our candles and melts are made with soy wax instead of paraffin and many customers ask us why this is. There are many reasons why we believe soy is a much better option than traditional paraffin wax, find out why below…
Soy Wax is Natural
As its name implies, soy wax comes from the soybean. It is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns solid at room temperature. It contains nothing artificial making it a much better alternative to ‘traditional’ paraffin wax. Did you know that paraffin wax it made from petroleum oil and actually produces harmful by-products when burned / melted? Soy wax is non-toxic which means it’s great for both the environment and your health.
Soy Wax Delivers a Cleaner Burn and Does Not Release Toxins Into the Air
You may notice your paraffin candle giving off black soot when burned, soy wax burns cleaner. The black soot from paraffin wax can potentially stain curtains, walls, and carpets inside your home – Something no one wants! As it is vegetable-based, soy wax does not give off any harmful by-products that might cause damage. Burning / melting paraffin releases at least 11 known toxins—two of which are carcinogens—into the air. Carcinogens are known to cause cancer in some people. Soy wax does not release any carcinogens when burned / melted.
Soy Wax is Environmentally Friendly and Vegan too!
Since soy wax is made from soybeans, it is friendly to the environment because soybeans are a renewable resource. Paraffin wax comes from petroleum, which is not a renewable resource. This is especially important if you are pregnant, have kids, or have pets, because it’s the safest option health-wise.
If personally you choose not to use animal products, then you might find candle shopping frustrating as so many types of candles use animal products. Beeswax comes from the hives of beeves, and (rather horrifically) some wax even comes from whales or dolphins. Soy candles are 100% vegan and do not require any animal products in their production or use.
Soy Wax Scents are Stronger
Due to the lower melting temperature of the wax, a healthier ‘wax pool’ around the wick is created. This ‘wax pool’ allows the fragrance oils to more easily vaporise, and therefore releases more fragrance into your home. It is common to hear people complain of headaches when paraffin candles burn, but in general, this isn’t due to the scent of the wax but rather the toxins it releases into the air. Soy wax offers many benefits over paraffin wax—some of which most people don’t even realise.
